Memphis Obstetrics and Gynecological Association Assists Co-Worker in Need; McAlister's Restaurant Joins the Effort
MEMPHIS, TN, February 10, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- It was a hot summer full of opportunities, and Haley Graham took advantage of the free time. Joining with her local chapter of Young Life, a nationwide Christian youth organization, she travelled to Colorado in July of 2009. The outcome of her trip, however, would not be as pleasant as expected.
Upon returning from Colorado, Haley began to experience flu-like symptoms. After many trips to several physicians, she was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected tick, Lyme Disease is now the fastest-growing infectious disease in the United States. Symptoms may include headache, fatigue, fever, and a circular skin rash. Within days to weeks after the initial onset, bacteria may begin to spread through the bloodstream. The infected tick must be attached for at least a day for the transmission to occur. Sadly, however, the infecting tick often goes un-noticed due to its small size.
In Haley's case, the oral antibiotics and other medications normally used for treatment were unsuccessful in remedying the illness. In January, Haley and her mother travelled to Kansas City to begin a more aggressive form of treatment.
Haley's mother, Melissa Graham, is employed by Memphis Obstetrics and Gynecological Association (MOGA) as the ultrasound technician at its Germantown office. The physicians and staff members of MOGA have begun encouraging patients, co-workers, and friends to contribute toward Haley's treatment and assist during this time of need. Donations can be made at any local branch of First Tennessee Bank, and donors should request the Haley Graham Fund. It is estimated that Haley's treatment will take place for a minimum of three months, at a cost of approximately $24,000 per month.
MOGA employees were also excited to learn that the Bartlett location of McAllister's Deli, located at 6600 Stage Road, would be donating 10% of all sales on Thursday evenings toward Haley's treatments. Patrons wishing to assist in this effort should come to the Bartlett McAllister's between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm on Thursdays, and may either dine in or carry out.
MOGA has placed a link on its website by which well-wisher may check the status of Haley and send her messages of encouragement. To visit the site, go to www.mogamd.com.
MOGA is one of the largest providers of women's healthcare in the Memphis area, with offices at St. Francis-Bartlett, Methodist-Germantown, Baptist Women's Hospital, and in Southaven. In addition to providing compassionate women's care, the practice offers photo-rejuvenation, hair and vein removal, and a variety of other cosmetic services.
