Dentists Say, "Enjoy Halloween Candy and Still Protect Your Teeth."
(Chattanooga, TN) The dentists at Shallowford Family Dental Group offer these tips to protect teeth even while enjoying Halloween candy.
CHATTANOOGA, TN, October 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The dentists at Shallowford Family Dental Group offer these tips to protect teeth even while enjoying Halloween candy.
1. Avoid sticky candy such as taffy, caramel, and gummy bears. Sticky candy adheres to teeth causing tooth decay, and it can even pull a filling or crown out.
2. It's best not to snack on candy over an extended period of time. Instead, enjoy your candy in a short period of time. Then brush teeth immediately after eating.
3. Chew sugar-free gum with zylitol sweetener to prevent tooth decay. Chewing the sugar-free gum after eating other candy will also help loosen sugar left on the teeth.
Dr. Charles Ankar says, "Eating candy occasionally is OK as long as you follow it up by brushing teeth. Problems arise when you allow the sugar from candy to stay on your teeth over time, which attacks the tooth enamel."
The four doctor team at Shallowford Family Dental Group includes Dr. Ankar, Dr. Tom Gardenhire, Jr, Dr. David Lewis, and Dr. Joseph Prince. Shallowford Family Dental Group is located at 6101 Shallowford Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37421. More information about their practice can be found on the web at www.ShallowfordFamilyDental.com.
