Tampa Doctor Performs Hair Replacement Surgeries Using His Own "Ledge Closure" at Donor Area, Leaving a More Concealed Scar
Dr. Paul T. Rose started using the Ledge Closure to allow for greater coverage at the donor area on the back of the head whereas most surgeons use a linear closure.

TAMPA, FL, October 19, 2008 /Tennessee News Articles/ -- If you have less hair than you would like on the top of your head and are considering having Hair Replacement surgery, it may be worth the time and cost of making a trip to Tampa, Fla.

Dr. Paul T. Rose performs many hair transplants on both men and women at the Image International Institute, which is located here.

"My approach is to view the hair restoration procedure not only as a surgical procedure but an artistic endeavor as well," said Dr. Rose, who received the GOLDEN FOLLICLE award from the ISHRS this year. This is the highest award for contributions to the clinical aspect of hair loss and hair surgery. "I place great emphasis on the naturalness of the result."

Hair Restoration Surgery

As both men and women age, often they lose hair on their heads. It may be a result of genetics, an accident, an illness or treatments, but hair restoration surgeries are becoming more common for both genders.

The procedure takes place in the office where a "donor strip" is taken from the patient's head. How much hair can be used all depends on the donor hair the patient has. "We're not giving them hair, just moving it around on their heads," said Dr. Rose's Surgical Tech, Laura Ciurlizza.

What's Different About Dr. Rose?

Dr. Rose employs what he refers to as the Ledge Closure. Only a small number of doctors have been personally trained by Dr Rose to use the ledge closure.

While most surgeons cut a strip from the back of the head and then suture it closed when the procedure is complete, Dr. Rose takes time to actually make the bottom flap of skin something like a tongue and groove rather than a straight line.

"My 'ledge' technique for closing the donor area allows for a finer, more cosmetic repair," Dr. Rose said. "This allows hair to grow through the incision line and provides the optimal appearance even with the hair trimmed a very short length."

This Ledge technique provides better healing and a more easily concealed scar. It also allows for better recovery and possible future surgeries to restore hair elsewhere on the head.
